Note: My National Geographic magazine entries are NOT in order. (This is because I don't always have time to do my entries.
Hi! I love dinosaurs. Today I will be doing a 2016 (March) National Geographic magazine entry. Let's begin!
WASTE NOT, WANT NOT: Globally nearly 800 million people suffer form hunger.
This is a serious problem, but that does not stop 2.9 trillion pounds of fruits and vegetables getting dumped every year globally.
However, not only does this waste food, it also wastes water, seeds and pesticides!!!!!!!!!!!
Some U.S schools, where children dump 40% of there lunches in to the trash are setting up sharing tables, which allows children to serve themselves portions they know they can eat.
In the past decade, portions in the U.S have increased significantly, contributing to obesity and food waste.
19% of the food that arrive in homes are uneaten and discarded globally. 53% of the food in farms, supermarkets, wholesalers and homes are lost or wasted globally.
So, how to stop food waste?
Conclusion: To stop the amount of food wastage at stores, homes, restaurants and in the community do and ask your friends and family to do the following: Grow your own food, eat all kinds of food, don't waste food, buy less food, get your school or you child or children's school to join the USDA Food Waste Challenge and give bruised but edible foods a second chance to get eaten.
If you and your friends do the all these suggestions I mentioned, food wastage would decrease. Also, you can ask your friends to ask there other friends to do my suggestions.
Thanks for reading and bye!
(Thanks to National Geographic for the pictures!)
